http://cancun.mediosindependientes.org/newswire/display/31/index.php

The Sydney leg of the International Day of Protest against War and Globalisation - coinciding with the World Trade Organisation summit in Cancun, Mexico - is planned for September 13 with the themes:

The day is being billed as a "Fiesta for Freedom" with a Mexican theme, including costumes for the Mexican day of the dead.

(There's will be more actions on September 9, and on "the other September 11"...)

The next organising meeting for the protests against the WTO meeting in Cancun will take place

next Thursday (August 21) at 6.30pm
at the
Teachers Club (23-33 Mary St, Surry Hills), SYDNEY.

We need as many groups and individuals as possible to come along and help plan for the day, or to get together your own props - flags, pots and pans, paper mache masks, etc.

Is anyone else getting the idea that something really wrong is happening with the world?

That suddenly the idea that the US government is plotting world domination doesn't sound like some mad conspiracy theory any more?

That the only thing that seems to count any more is money?

That any semblance of justice, or democracy, or compassion (or, hell, even sanity) in the way the world works is fast disappearing?

There do seem to be a lot of examples going around:

There are plenty of other examples we could use: the blocking of effective global action against climate change, the increasing persecution of refugees and asylum seekers, the relentless march of consumerism, the corruption of our democracies by money politics...

Is this the world you want to see?

No? Well, then, on September 13, you have another option: to join with hundreds of thousands of people around the world who will join together for an International Day of Protest Against Globalisation and War.

The Day of Protest coincides with the World Trade Organisation's summit in Mexico, a clear symbol of all the things we oppose about where the world is going, against the whole Brave New World being forced down our throats, against "Globalisation at Gunpoint".

Tell your friends and colleagues and neighbours, get your union, student organisation or community group to back the Day of Protest, hand out flyers and leaflets in your local area – and help us to stand up for a world worth living in.

There's more planned in the week leading up to this world-wide day of action. There will be one or two kick-off actions/events on September 9, and on "S11" there will be a rally and a filmnight on "the other September 11", the Pinochet coup in Chile that started in September 1973. So stay tuned and check the GJS website for details, or get on the eGroup.
