Brisbane - Australia
IS holding a Reclaim the STreets on the 13th of September opposing the WTO and creating a vision of a new future free of coporate control. We are working with the Refugee Action Collective so the event will also represent refugee rights - its a big deal in Australia - with the concentration camps out in the desert and all - alot of us are ashamed of the Liberal government and their racist policies which imprison refugees and then deport them.

RECLAIM THE STREETS : IN solidarity with the World Trade Organisation protests in Cancun, Mexico.
Reclaim the Streets is a carnival, a street party — for people to come together and celebrate, to create a vision of what community could be if we were all free from corporate control. RTS is an action for sustainable energies, alternatives to oil and uranium, which is destroying the land, air, water and the peoples living closely in harmony with the earth.
Reclaim the Streets is a decentralized direct action network which uses street parties to take back public space — the street — from cars, corporations and the police state, and to return it to the public for socializing, bicycling, art, food, dancing, music, dissent, dialogue, community and creativity.
Why Reclaim the Streets??
Ultimately it is in the streets that power must be dissolved: for the streets where daily life is endured, suffered and eroded, and where power is confronted and fought, must be turned into the domain where daily life is enjoyed, created and nourished. Because the streets are ours! Life used to be lived in the streets, not just in cars, living rooms, and cubicles. Because stepping off the footpaths - into the streets - brings us together, and allows us to challenge the dehumanization of our lives and the sterile world that accompanies it. A street party is a liberated zone, where we can practice life as we'd like it to be - full of color, community, pleasure and mutual aid. Because ecstatic dance is good for you. Because the Church and the State have tried to suppress our dancing (and our bodies, our sexuality, our freedom...) for hundreds of years and we're still resisting and reclaiming what was lost.
