The March for Economic Justice! Will be preceded by a short rally and begin at approximately 1:30 PM from the corner of Laurel and Main at Monroe Park. This march will be peaceful and permitted. We will march through Oregon Hill, where 13 historic homes were recently demolished by the Ethyl Corporation to make way for apartments, through the Ethyl Corporation compound on Belvidere, then back to Monroe Park. Ethyl is the focus of our march because it produces toxic leaded gasoline additives that have been banned in the United States but are still sold in the third world, and because under NAFTA the Ethyl Corporation has been able to sue Canada for its public health ban on MMT, another toxic fuel additive. Following the march, an educational fair will take place in Monroe Park from 2:30-5:00. Members of local progressive organizations and community groups, as well as those interested in fair trade and local economies, will be available to answer questions and provide educational materials.
