Cancún is located in the peninsula of Yucatán in the
federal state of Quintana Roo in the south-east of
Mexico directly at the coast, pretty closed to Cuba.
The exclusive tourist site today has been a refugee
for pirates for a long time. In pre-colonial times the
region belonged to the area of the Maya culture, in
the lagoon of Cancú and in the neighbourhood you will
still find some more or less famous archeological sites.
