Convenorship announcement

Date: Wed, March 5, 2003

Dear friends,

This is, in the absence of the better word, a convenorship proposal.

Yugoslav collective "Drugaciji Svet je Moguc" is a coalition organized in accord with PGA hallmarks. It is a very specific form of coalition, embracing and encompassing many collectives and groups, campaigns and initiatives.

We were thinking a lot about PGA convenorship effort: and the decision we made wasn't easy. Our intention is to include European East in PGA processes more forcefully, and to put this region, thus far neglected, on the map of global rebellion.

We will need your help. We need, in fact, as much help as possible. Our convenorship is an experiment, and a very important experiment in our opinion. We are of the opinion that, assuming this responsibility, we'll be able to promote the ideas of global resistance in post-Yugoslavia, in the Balkans and in Eastern Europe in a more coherent fashion. We are of the opinion that this is far and away the best way to break the isolation of Eastern European anti capitalist groups and social movements. We are of the opinion that activist focus on Global South, however understandable, tended to undermine the focus on the European East. And it is about the time to change this. We are going to try to stand up for this challenge. With your help, of course.

Thanks.

a little info about post Yugoslavia:

Today, Yugoslavia is a country with 250,000 killed in the war (1991-still now), a million and a half internally displaced people did not return to their homes (which means that their repatriation is still politicaly impossible), about the same number have emigrated, while an unknown number of people are preparing every day to cross, illegally or not, the border of the new Berlin wall - Shengen state, which separates the new Roman empire from the threatening "Barbarians" ( consult :schengen politics - emigration 0 ). The number of disapeared is changing daily, mass graves are being exhumed and the remains of unidentified people are waiting in white morgue bags, for those who will move them from one administrative form to another, thus closing their "case" (Tuzla).

The most important news are not those put on the cover, but on back pages, somewhere between sports and culture, in the supermarket of clasified adds of various sorts: legal or illegal visas, trafficking in white slavery, laid-off people accepting any avialable job, selling a workforce , as well as offering in human organs (frequent are the adds of those invisible ones who, in order to provide their children with education, offer their kindeys for sale - an commerce still legally prohibited in Yugoslavia). Many who have committed crimes are still free, at large, while the agents of the "civil society" ( read burgois middle class) and their chief promoters - foreign NGOs fighting for "human rights" - are exactly those who would have to pay for the change in status quo and the real improvement of life conditions in our country, with the loss of their several hundred thousand jobs and mega-wages; in one word "nonsense as a political category" rules our lands.

Modern art is florishing, while the only things actually modern and constantly improved are destitution, poverty and new proletarization.

This brings the paradox to the peak, because capitalism brought "peace" (the western media and the international community off corse have made a great effort to present the model liberal-capitalist, in whose times the greatest initial robbery of public property, privatization and fortune making took place - i.e. Slobodan Milosevic, as the "last communist of the century", connecting his overthrowing with the importation of liberal democracy, even with the use of bombs).

Despite 10 years of isolation and a big enthousiasm for a final capitalist "liberation", after 2 years- 45% of population on the last elections went boicoting parlamentarian democracy.

That's why we found on extreme importancy to promote in this moment direct democracy and self-organisation as a legitime resistance and a possible "second way(S) direction (S)" , spreading among our population the idea that behind big and unanimous propaganda fleg, exist another side of capitalisme.

Perhaps with your participation and a little involvment in that?

So, that's for our sincere hope in this moment.

Best regards
