Ecuadoran activists released

re: Luis Munoz, David Conrado, Juan Pablo Barragan, Jose Luis Proano,
Alberto Saltos, Stalin Saltos, Ivon Ramos, Julia Butterfly

Amnesty International has been informed by INREDH, a non-governmental
human rights organization in the captital, Quito, that the eight
environmentalists named above have been released.  Julia Butterfly, a US
citizen, has been deported to the USA.  Amnesty International is
investigating the terms of their release.

They were detained incommunicado and without charge after demonstrating
against the US oil company Occidental, at its headquarters in Quito.

No further action from the Urgent Action network is required. Many thanks
to all those who sent appeals.
