Friday, August 23, 2002 15:30 (GMT-0300) The construction of a 98km, 400kV power transmission interconnection between Mexico and Guatemala will be finished in December 2003, according to the terms of an agreement between authorities from the two countries. The line is part of the Plan Panama regional integration project. Mexico's state power company CFE will build an US$11.3mn, 28km stretch from Tapachula in Chiapas state to the border, from where the line will continue 70km at a cost of US$33mn. CFE director Alfredo Elias Ayaub and Guatemala's energy minister Raul Archila agreed that the line could be extended further in the future to other Central American countries, the CFE said in a statement.
