Discussion on communication tools
Suggestions & points for discussion
General points:
- prioritise discussion on political analysis: how can we implement this? Subjects that need to be implemented at the least are territory & sovereignity (incl. land, squats, culture), antimilitarism, discussion on anti-globalisation strategies
- In Europe groups like Attac are having the most prominent place in general public discussion. How to counter.
- We need to demystify PGA
- Local people do not have access to the lists
- Discussion on media functions
- Interact much more with Indymedia, especially towards publishing more information offline.
- If we keep on talking of communication on a technical level, it does not have very much meaning.
How to get in contact with other groups/networks:
- inventorise all groups & contacts in a kind of yellow pages
- more regional listservs & create overview of all regional lists
- have a focus on paper communication as well.
- Identify / inventorise existing networks (eg between squats) lists. MRG is already working on this, there is allready a list of 150 lists mainly on globalisation.
- There is a meeting in january of the European IMC's. We need to contribute to the discussion on the structure on this. (20-21 Jan, Berlin)
Communication within the european PGA-network
- dedicated logistic/support list
- need to split convenors list? discussion on whether to remove support group from this list for mandate reasons. Suggestion to make some filters on what should be where
- have a focus on paper communication as well.
- Advertising groups that are doing translation / stimulate setup of translation lists
- Caravan99 archive on the web?
- There is a directory being made from all the groups that applied for Cochabamba participation. There is a list from the Ya Basta computer that crashed from the Milan conference. Maybe they can find it. A problem with the directory idea is that PGA does not have members. Maybe the list can contain groups that have participated in conferences or it can be published autonomously.
- A chatroom or something on the website.
- There was a strong focus on computers. This is hard for people who have less expertise in this field.
- Communication is also in assemblies, and in actions. Also a lot of the communication is informal.
For the next meeting we must come with a complete review of communication within PGA.
- The non-internet tools are / need to be more decentralized then internet tools, this is a reason they get a stronger focus.
- We will inventarise & extensify the different proposals with a convenors working group, to make concrete proposals to discuss at the convenors meeting in NL in December.
