Garment Workers Demonstration For The Implementation Of 9 points Agreement In Bangladesh,Garment workers sgated a demonstration for the implementation of 9 points agreement that was signed between the BGMEA and 12 garments workers federation.

The demonstration was held on 25 th october,2002. Several hundreds garment workers including the women from different part of Dhaka city took part in the demonstration. It was started at 11 am at Muktangoan , central place of Dhaka city.At 11.30 am workers started a rally with Red Flag and it parred some main streets of the city.The demonstration was organized by the National Garments Workers Federation.

Before the rally, among others Amirul Haque Amin, Kazi Muhammad Ali, Miss Shahida sarker, Mujibur Rahman Pintu,Miss Safia parvin, Miss Nurunnahar addressed the gathering.

Speakers mentioned that " on 30th August,2002 BGMEA had signed an agreement with 12 garment workers federation including the NGWF. According to the agreement workers enjoy the weekly holiday from 30th of September,2002.But most of the factories did not implement it. According to the agreement management will provide the appointment letter/ contact letter for the workers.But only few factories provided this. According to the agreement monthly wage and overtime payment should be paid within the 7 of the next month.But most of the factories do not following this.Even some cases 2/3 month salaries are un paid. According to the agreement workers are not getting free trade union rights yet.BGMEA yet did not set up the AGREEMENT MONITORING COMMITTEE."

The speakers added more that the other points also did not implemented by the BGMEA.

The speakers urged the BGMEA to implement the 9 points agreement immedietly. They also warned that- if BGMEA did not implement the agreement immedietly, workers will go on movement very soon.
