Monday, November the 1st.
The bus needs to be fixed again! We use the time for an extended meeting, and hit the road with the repaired bus at 2 pm. Ithaca, NY, here we come! Except that half an hour later the bus breaks down again Then on the road again. Then, one hour later, the next break down. East of Albany. West of Albany. Then 40 miles away from Ithaca. A pattern seems to be emerging, and some of us begin to suspect that the bus we bought is a lemon.
Only Friederike is not patiently waiting. She gets a ride by Jeff and the limo and arrives 3 to 8 in the Telluride House, where she gives a very well attended and important talk on 'EconomicMan and Othernesss'. She challenges the logic upon which neo-liberal economic policy rests, and leeds a discussion on gender and alternatives to current economic thinking.
One oclock in the morning. The people waiting in Cornell at the Telluride House to welcome the caravan - including our new bus driver Roman - get a phone call: Please pick us up. They wake some car-owners, borrow their vehicles and fetch everybody. The last ones arrive early in the morning. The prepared soup stays cold. Everybody falls asleep.
...meanwhile it's 4 o'clock in the morning.
